Fishing odyssey, polar bear and iceberg

An iceberg is a large piece of freshwater ice that has broken off a glacier.

We occasionally have fishermen who contact us to ask; what is the ideal period to fish for speckled trout, lake trout, arctic char and to see polar bears and icebergs?

There are some points to be considered. The last week of June coincides generally with the end of snows melt and the water of our rivers is ice cold (5°C to 10°C). No other time of the year gather so many different fish species to feed near the water surface. Hense it’s an excellent period to fish for starving and very strong fishes. Regarding the polar bears, we find them mainly at the river’s mouth and on islands along the coast of Ungava. They are easily observable and impressive on any points of view. In a few words; enormous, agile, fast and fascinating. Icebergs are always a show for the eyes and we never know what to expect. In July icebergs can be count by the dozen and occasionally it’s even possible to observe seals and walrus taking their sun bath. In brief; June 20th till July 20th is the ideal period to fish for various species of fishes, see polar bears and to photograph mountains of ice. Afterward it will be possible all the same to observe polar bears and icebergs, but the intense period of fishing which gathers all the species will decrease significantly.
