Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Montreal – Kuujjuaq – Kangiqsualujjuaq (Georges River)/Barnoin Ecolodge Flight.† Upon arrival at Barnoin Camp, the manager-owner will welcome you with a cocktail, followed by the presentation of your upcoming itinerary and the preparation of your material for the next day flight to Ugjuktok Lake. Afternoon hike to explore the subarctic tundra. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 2: Floatplane Flight between Barnoin Ecolodge and Ugjuktok Lake (Saglek Fjord). † In the early morning, a floatplane will take you on a spectacular panoramic flight to Lake Ugjuktok. You will touch down on magnificent Ugjuktok Lake, overlooking the imposing Ugjuktok and Saglek Fjords. Your mountain trek begins with a hike up to a peak at the edge of the fjord, where you’ll encounter grandiose geography. At nightfall, watch the aurora borealis. Overnight stay in tents.

Day 3 to 8: Grand Ugjuktok and Saglek Peninsula Crossing.† The expedition begins from Ugjuktok Lake at about 500 meters above sea level, then takes you on foot to the upper plateau, about 1,000 meters altitude, zigzagging in and out of river and valley zones, around streams and glacial lakes. Invisible from the plateau, you’ll encounter moraine fields and, arriving at the vertiginous walls of the fjord, you’ll have a breathtaking view of the mountains and complex system of fjords against a backdrop of icebergs floating on the ocean. After a completely independent 20 km crossing in an ambiance of absolute solitude, you’ll hike along the elevated escarpment over the fjord’s lofty cliffs to the imposing Tandems Waterfalls. You will then travel through a glorious glacial valley back to Ugjuktok Lake. Overnight stay in tents.

Day 9: Afternoon Return Flight to Camp on the Barnoin River. † Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 10: Return trip. † Breakfast at the lodge.
